Individual Therapy
We all need support sometimes when life feels too heavy, too confusing, or too overwhelming. Individual therapy at Comprehensive Mental Health Solutions (CMHS) provides a supportive and private space to talk openly, understand yourself more, and develop tools to help you move forward. Our caring therapists are committed to delivering empathetic and evidence-based support to help you feel more grounded, confident, and secure in your life.
What Is Individual Therapy?
Individual therapy is counseling in which you and a licensed mental health professional work one-on-one. At CMHS, we understand that your experiences, difficulties, and goals are all unique to you.
Individual Therapy services at our practice are designed for adults, teens, and children who are managing stress, anxiety, depression, and other emotional issues. Therapy is a personal process that occurs at your own pace and in response to your individual needs and goals.
Why Individual Therapy Matters
There’s no instruction manual for life. Sometimes, stress, loss, trauma, or emotional struggles can creep up on you, affecting your outlook, your relationships, your work, and your sense of self.
Individual therapy can help you:
- Find meaning in your emotions and behaviors
- Find more effective ways to cope with stress and difficult emotions
- Improve your communication skills and relationships
- Find strength during change or uncertain times
- Find clarity, confidence, and self-understanding
Therapy is not a sign that something’s “wrong.” It’s a way to take care of yourself and your emotional well-being.
How We Approach Individual Therapy
Therapy at CMHS is collaborative, individualized, and tailored to meet your needs. Some of the therapeutic approaches that we use include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a powerful therapy that can help you identify negative thinking patterns and behaviors, replacing them with more constructive, balanced, and adaptive ones. CBT is used for various mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, stress, and mood swings.
Trauma-Informed Therapy
If you have been traumatized, we can provide trauma-informed therapy that is safe, trusting, and empowering, while at the same time allowing you to process your trauma at your own pace.
Insight-Oriented & Supportive Therapy
This type of therapy is all about self-discovery, emotions, and understanding how your past influences your present, enabling you to make significant changes in your life.
What to Expect From Individual Therapy
- Initial Assessment & Intake: The first session is an opportunity for us to discuss why you're seeking therapy, your background, and what you hope to achieve. This is a supportive process that is never rushed.
- Goal Setting & Treatment Planning: We will work with you to determine your goals, such as overcoming anxiety, enhancing relationships, or coping with a major life change. In addition, we will determine how therapy will assist you in achieving your goals.
- Ongoing Sessions: Therapy sessions are usually 45 to 60 minutes in length. The frequency of appointments is catered to your needs. The type of therapy may vary over time as your needs change.
- Progress Review & Adjustment: Therapy is flexible. Your progress will be constantly monitored to ensure the approach is helpful and consistent with your goals.
A Collaborative, Respectful Space
Your therapy space is confidential, judgment-free, and client-centered. Although the focus of individual therapy is your personal experience, the therapist may also help you understand relationships, boundaries, and communication styles that influence your life outside of the therapy sessions.
Thinking About the Next Step?
You don’t have to have it all figured out before seeking therapy. Whether you’re dealing with a particular issue or you’re just “off,” individual therapy can help you find clarity and stability.
At CMHS CT, our individual therapy services are compassionate, practical, and focused on assisting you with finding yourself once again. Contact us today to chedule an appointment and begin taking that next step toward significant support.
