Half-finished tasks. A dozen open tabs in your head. “Why can't I just do the thing?” Struggling to focus or stay on track? At CMHS, your therapist and doctor work together — your treatment is built around your life, not the other way around.
ADHD isn't a discipline problem or a character flaw. It's a difference in how the brain manages attention, time, and follow-through. In kids it can look like motion and missed instructions. In teens and adults it often looks quieter: chronic lateness, half-finished projects, a desk of open loops, and a lifetime of being told to just try harder by people who never had to white-knuckle the basics.
Getting it properly evaluated matters, because plenty of other things — anxiety, depression, sleep problems — can imitate ADHD, and ADHD rarely travels alone. A real evaluation sorts out what's actually going on before anyone reaches for a treatment.
Treatment starts with a thorough evaluation by our clinical team. From there, the plan is built to the person: therapy that teaches concrete skills for time, organization, and emotional regulation; coaching for the daily systems; and, when appropriate, medication managed by our psychiatric clinicians, who work in the same practice as the therapist, from the same chart.
For kids and teens, we work with parents too, because the home and school environment is half the treatment. For adults, we spend as much time on self-understanding as on systems — most adults with new diagnoses need to renegotiate a lifetime of wrong explanations for their struggles.
Evaluations and ongoing care happen in person in Milford or by video anywhere in Connecticut. Most new patients are seen within a week — a meaningful difference from the months-long waits common for ADHD evaluations elsewhere.
