Racing thoughts. A body that won't relax. Trouble sleeping. Anxiety shows up differently for everyone, and at CMHS your therapist and psychiatrist treat it together, from the same plan.
Anxiety rarely announces itself politely. It shows up as a mind that won't stop rehearsing worst cases, a body that stays braced when nothing's wrong, sleep that won't come, or a stomach that keeps score. Some people have panic attacks; many more just live at a low boil for years and call it their personality.
The good news is unambiguous: anxiety is among the most treatable things we see. Approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy have decades of evidence behind them, and most people notice real movement within weeks of starting, not years.
Your therapist starts with how anxiety actually operates in your life: the triggers, the thought loops, the avoidance patterns that keep it fed, and builds a plan around evidence-based approaches matched to you rather than a one-size protocol.
If symptoms are severe enough that therapy can't get traction, that's where being an integrated practice pays off: our psychiatric team is in the same building, working from the same chart. Medication becomes an option your whole care team weighs together, never a hand-off to a stranger.
First session is about your story: what anxiety looks like for you, what you've tried, what you want back. Sessions are weekly to start, about 55 minutes, in person in Milford or by video anywhere in Connecticut.
